How Can I Practice Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is a type of meditation that involves focusing on the present moment without judgment. It can help you relax and reduce stress. Often times we get the questions, "That sounds great! But, how do I as an athlete practice mindfulness?" A few techniques that we use here at the Youth Sports Lab include: Mindful breathing: Focus on the natural rhythm of your breath, and how it feels as you inhale and exhale. Body scan: Tune in to your body and notice any sensations you're feeling. Start at the top of your head and move down to your feet. Mindful walking: Pay attention to each step, the movement of your body, and the sounds around you. Mindful eating: Be aware of the taste, texture, and flavor of each bite. It is ok to practice these techniques regularly. Nobody is ever perfect, and is a lifelong skill to be used.
